Walter Martin Pape, Sr., 100, of rural Oswego, Kansas, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, January 8, 2016 while living in Oklahoma with a daughter.
He was born November 25, 1915 to George E. Pape and Lula B. (Stewart) Pape of Oswego. He was a lifelong resident of Kansas except for a short time while living in Oregon and most recently in Oklahoma.
On February 13, 1943, he married Grace E. Skillen. They resided in Oswego until moving to Portland, Oregon in November of 1944 where he worked in a shipyard during World War II.
In December of 1945, they moved to rural Oswego where they lived for 65 years on the property they purchased and farmed together. Grace went to be with the Lord on March 31, 2005.
Walter was a great provider for his family. He worked as a farmer, ran a dairy operation, was a great mechanic, and in his last years enjoyed sharing time with the many friends he made in Oklahoma. Walter enjoyed gardening and fixing lawnmowers and tractors. In later years, he and Grace especially enjoyed quilting together. He will always be remembered by his work ethic and caring attitude.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Grover Pape; one daughter, Patty Gartman; and one son, Jim Pape.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Friends may call Wednesday morning at the funeral home after 9:00 a.m. Burial will be at Oswego Cemetery.
