Warren K. Banzet, Sr., 98, a longtime resident of Edna, passed away at 1:14 a.m., Monday, March 13, 2017 at Medicalodges Coffeyville.
He was born March 10, 1919 in rural Edna, Kansas to Gus and Lucy (Muller) Banzet. As a young boy, he grew up in rural Edna where he attended Ripen Country School.
On March 20, 1941, he and Erma Leona Karstetter were married in Neosho, Missouri. After marriage, they made their home in Altamont until he entered the United States Army in 1944. While serving in the Army during World War II, he was in the 8 th Army 27 th Infantry Division in Okinawa and also later served in Occupation Forces in Japan. Upon his honorable discharge, Warren was awarded four medals for his service to his country. He farmed and raised livestock throughout his adult life. He also worked in construction several years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Edna. Warren enjoyed horses, dogs, and raising chickens. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include two sons, Warren Banzet, Jr. and his wife, Phuoc, of Vacaville, CA and Allan Banzet and his wife, Janie, of rural Edna, KS; one daughter, Kaylene Mayerske and her husband, Mike, of Overland Park, KS; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one sister, Margie Miller, of South Norwalk, CT.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Banzet, on October 3, 1992; two brothers, Arthur and Wayne Banzet; three sisters, Helen Brown, Hazel Thomas and Elsie Gilfillan; and one grandson, Warren Banzet, III.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 17, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Edna. The family will receive friends from noon until service time on Friday, at the church. Burial will be in Edna Elm Grove Cemetery with military honors given by Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call at their convenience from 1-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
