Wayne E. Letcher, 93, of Erie, passed away at 7:20 a.m., Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.
He was born July 17, 1923 in Galesburg, Kansas to Everett and Bertha (Trabue) Letcher. Wayne was raised by Charles and Ada May (Trabue) Hughes after his mother died giving birth. He grew up in Galesburg where he attended school and graduated from Galesburg High School.
In earlier years, he farmed in the Galesburg area and worked at Cherryvale Grain Company. After moving to Erie in 1970, he worked as a truck driver for Erie Grain Company, Chanute Grain Company, and Neosho County until his retirement at the age of 86.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and in his younger years bowling. Wayne was always very interested in the day-to-day activity of the farming operation and especially enjoyed looking at crops.
He and Anna McKinney were married on August 24, 1963 at Erie City Hall. She survives of the home.

Eighteen Great-Grandchildren
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Roleigh Hughes, Everett Hughes, Dale Hughes, Harold Hughes and Orville Killian; and four sisters, Gladys Lewis, Zelma Russel, Mabel Letcher, and Opal Letcher.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Erie. The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., on Monday, in Parish Hall at the church.
