Wendell E. Hughes, 74, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, formerly of Chetopa, Kansas, died at 3:10 p.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Maplewood Care Center in Tulsa.
He was born September 14, 1938, in Opp, Alabama, to Johnnie L. and Annie Lee (Sasser) Hughes. He was a 1957 graduate of Chetopa High School. Following high school, he served in the United States Army.
Through the years, he had worked as produce manager at Albertson's Grocery Store. He enjoyed reading, sports and working crossword puzzles.
He and Francis Getto were married February 5, 1965 in Oswego, Kansas. She preceded him in death October 19, 2005.
Survivors include:
Two Sons – Greg Hughes and wife, Tracy Norman, OK
Chris Hughes and wife, Teresa Chetopa, KS
One Daughter – Jennifer Wagner Tulsa, OK
Four Grandchildren – Jared, Chad, Allie and Kaity

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at St. Rose Cemetery in Chetopa.
