Willard George Parsons, 81, formerly of rural Altamont, Kansas, passed away at 9:04 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at the Harry Hynes Inpatient Unit in Wichita, Kansas.
He was born on February 6, 1938, to Cleo and Mabel (Brooks) Parsons in McCune, Kansas. At 9 months old Willard had polio, leaving him partially paralyzed on his right side. He never gave into his handicap and thought he could do whatever anyone else did. If anyone commented or asked about his disability, his reply was, "Oh, I guess I will have two good hands when I get to heaven." Willard always had a smile and would help anyone if he could.
At age 11, Willard joined the Altamont First Baptist Church. He was a lifelong active member in Sunday school and church services and for a time served as a deacon.
Willard worked at the Parsons Drive-In Theater, Stein's Serv-A-Car and was a detailer at Malone's Auto. He had a great love for the outdoors and for farming. Also, he had a great fondness for horseback riding and was a member of the Southeast Kansas Mounted Posse.
On August 18, 1963, Willard and Evelyn Fay Morris were married at the Altamont First Baptist Church. The couple divorced in 1971. They remarried on August 18, 2013 and she survives of the home.
