William F. "Bill" Chandler, 80, a longtime resident of Parsons, died at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, June 16, 2007, at his home in Wichita. He had been in his usual health and his death was unexpected.
He was born February 1, 1927, in Parsons, to Clifford E. and Anna L. (McNerney) Chandler. He grew up and attended schools in Parsons, graduating from Parsons High School and Parsons Junior College.
He served in the U.S. Navy from January 1944 to May 1946. He later served in the U.S. Army from June 1948 to June 1952. Following his discharge, he worked as a switchman, trainmaster, and yardmaster at the Katy Railroad in Parsons until his retirement. He also worked as a washer/dryer repairman in his spare time.
He and Joann K. Clifford were married September 30, 1950, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parsons. She preceded him in death April 14, 2005.
He was a member of the former St. Mary's Catholic Church, now St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons, Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Association of Retired Railroaders and the ARC (Association of Retarded Citizens) in Wichita. He had been recognized by the American Red Cross as a twenty gallon blood donor.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen A. Bussinger in December 1991; a son, Charles C. "Chick" Chandler, in January 2000;
four brothers, Joe, Charles, Eugene and Edward Chandler; and one sister, Maxine Harris.
Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors given by Brown-Bishop Post No. 704 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where the family will receive friends following the Rosary.
