William F. "Bill" Chapman, 85, of rural Parsons, died at 2:58 p.m., Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at his home.
He was born July 27, 1925, in rural Parsons, Kansas, to Robert A. and Edith P. (Tackett) Chapman. He was a 1942 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont. He then served in the United States Army from November 1950 through November 1952 in the 30th Engineer Brigade during the Korean conflict. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army with the rank of Corporal, he attended Parsons Junior College where he earned an Associate degree.
He was a life member of Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Parsons and a member of the Iris Society in Parsons. He enjoyed bowling in the Senior Citizen League, spending time with family and friends, and selling produce at the farmers market.
He and Mary Lou Berends were married May 29, 1954, in rural Mound Valley. The couple was engaged in farming and raised livestock their entire marriage.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Leck, December 21, 2010.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 7, 2011, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
