William P. "Bill" Martinie

William P. "Bill" Martinie, 86, of Altamont, passed away at 8:46 a.m., Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Elmhaven East Nursing Home in Parsons.

He was born June 13, 1930 in Little River, Kansas to Winiford Price and Edyce Isabelle (Bolton) Martinie.  At the age of nine, he moved with his family to rural Altamont.  In 1948, he graduated from Labette County Community High School in Altamont.

Bill worked at Anchortite in Parsons for 20 years before farming and dairying.  He was a member of the Altamont United Methodist Church, Labette County Farm Bureau, Mid-Am Dairy Association, and had served several years on the rural water board.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, and watching Westerns.

On March 28, 1948, he and Betty J. Strickland were married at the Altamont United Methodist Church.  She preceded him in death on July 26, 2016.

Survivors include one son, Phillip Martinie and his wife, Jackie, of Altamont; four daughters, Rebecca Allen and her husband, Leon, of Oswego, KS, Linda Lacy and her husband, Byron, of Potwin, Kansas, Janet Clark and her husband, Don, of Altamont, KS, and Teressa Owens and her husband, Francis, of Yuma, CO; thirteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lurena Dunn of Hesston, KS and Alberta Schulte and her husband, Keith, of Rapid City, SD.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Altamont United Methodist Church.  Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont.  The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Friday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
