William S. "Will" Slayter

William S. "Will" Slayter, 23, of Edna, died early Sunday morning, February 24, 2013, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident south of Parsons. He was born January 16, 1990, in Coffeyville, Kansas, to James Allen "Jay" Slayter, III and Cheryl Jean (Smith) Slayter. He grew up in Edna where he attended Edna Grade School, was a 2008 graduate of Labette County High School in Altamont, and attended Coffeyville Community College where he was involved in livestock judging. In 2010, Will began working as an apprentice electrician with Tom Trollope at TTT Electric in Parsons where he was currently employed. He was a member of the Elm Christian Church in Edna. Will enjoyed collecting guns, fishing and being outdoors. While participating in 4-H and Future Farmers of America, he especially enjoyed showing cattle and had won Reserve Grand Champion at the Coffeyville Interstate Fair and Grand Champion at the Labette County Fair. He was currently serving on the Edna Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include: His Parents – Jay and Cheryl Slayter of the home One Sister – Chelsea Slayter of the home One Niece – Macy Slayter of the home Paternal Grandparents – Doris Hoyt and husband, George Salton Sea, CA James Slayter, Jr. and wife, Arlene Topeka, KS He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bill and Beverly Smith; and uncle, Kenny Smith. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the Edna United Methodist Church. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Edna Volunteer Fire Department or to the Labette County Fair Board. These may be left at or mailed to Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O.
