Willie T. Martin, Sr., 69, of Mound Valley, died at 11:40 a.m., Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at Elm Haven East Nursing Home in Parsons.

He was born April 30, 1937 in Alabama to Amos Martin and Sylvia Simms. He grew up and attended schools in Blakely, Georgia.

On October 4, 1955 he and Betty Ann Shelfer were married in Blakely, Georgia. He worked for Asplundh for 40 years as a line trimmer while living in Tampa, Florida. In 2002, he and his family moved to Mound Valley.

He enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes, barbecuing and gardening. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mound Valley.

He was preceded in death by two children; Dianne Martin and Thomas H. Martin; one brother, Joe Will Chambliss; and one sister, Madie Green Clark.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 27, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Mound Valley. Burial will be in the Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 26, 2006 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
