Wilma J. Eck, 89, lifelong resident of Parsons, passed away at 9:30 p.m., Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Elm Haven East Nursing Home in Parsons.
She was born August 31, 1925 in Parsons, Kansas to Ralph and Gertrude (Smith) Shaughnessy. Wilma grew up in Parsons and was a graduate of Parsons High School. As a teenager, she worked as a soda jerk.
On August 12, 1948, she and Willard Lee Eck were married in Parsons. Wilma was a devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring grandmother. Mr. Eck preceded her in death on June 11, 2012.
In earlier years, Wilma was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church. She enjoyed watching old movies and working word search puzzles.
Survivors include one daughter, Frances Wolgamott and her husband, Robert, Parsons, KS; two granddaughters, Pammy Wolgamott and Michelle Wolgamott, both of Parsons; and one sister, Martha Cares, Lawrence, KS.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford and Robert Shaughnessy; and three sisters, Margaret Steele, Doris Finley, and infant Barbara Kay Shaughnessy.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Private committal services will be held by the family at Oakwood Cemetery in Parsons at a later date.
