Wilma L. Kimrey, 95, of Parsons, passed away at 8:14 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Labette Health.
Wilma Lee South was born on December 25, 1926, to William Richard and Ethel (Goff) South in Thayer, Kansas. As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in Thayer, graduating from Thayer High School.
On October 2, 1950, Wilma and Paul J. Kimrey were united in marriage in Erie, Kansas. Over the years, they mostly lived in Parsons and Oswego, although they did live in Hot Springs, Arkansas, for a time. She worked as a waitress at a café in Oswego for a time. For many years, she worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant, from where she retired.
Wilma was a member of the Dennis United Methodist Church. She enjoyed making pies. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Wilma also loved spending time outdoors, gardening, mowing, growing flowers, watching hummingbirds and walking.
Survivors include:
One son – Richard L. "Rick" Kimrey and his wife, Pam, of Savonburg, Kansas
One daughter – Diana L. Blackburn of Oswego, Kansas
Five grandchildren – Grant Kimrey; Mike Kimrey; Holly Dreiling and her husband, Tyler; Chance Kimrey; and Autumn Kimrey
Three great-grandchildren – Kyler Dreiling; Hailey Dreiling and Lily Kimrey
Two brothers – Vernon South and his wife, Joanne, of Olathe, Kansas
Larry South of Thayer, Kansas
One sister – Virginia Koch of Springfield, Missouri
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, on March 23, 2001; son-in-law, Vernon Blackburn; one brother, Jackie South; three sisters, Doris Cox, Thelma Lee and infant Wanda South.
There will be a graveside service at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 20, 2022, at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Galesburg. Friends may call at the funeral home to sign the register from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday.
