W.O. Bevans , 85, of rural Parsons, passed away Tuesday July 16, 2024 at his home.
Wimp was born on April 16, 1939, in Hartshorne, Oklahoma, to John and Eva Lee Bevans. Wimp grew up in Southeast Kansas and served in the Navy after graduating high school.
Wimp married Joyce Bevans (Myers) in 1960. They had five children, Barbara, Christine, Joyce Dianne, Michael and Melissa. They traveled and lived in various towns around the country as Wimp grew his business as a painter. Most notably calling home to Martinez, California, Poncha Springs, Colorado, and Parsons, Kansas.
Wimp married Lois Bevans (Baldwin) on July 22, 1983, gaining two daughters, Brenda and Cristal. Wimp and Lois resided in South Mound, Kansas, where the family enjoyed many gatherings including Lois' favorite, Thanksgiving, when Wimp and Lois would host both the Baldwin and Bevans family.
Wimp worked as a painter all of his life. He ran his own business throughout the years, but also worked for LaForge & Budd towards the end of his career.
Wimp was a member of the VFW and the Parsons Elks Lodge. Wimp enjoyed people. He was often seen around town carrying on conversations with whomever he came in contact. He enjoyed going to the casinos and his grandkids' sporting events. He was ornery and funny and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a great friend to many.
Survivors include his four daughters Barbara and David Spurgeon of Amarillo, Texas, Christine and Kenny Smith of Poncha Springs, Colorado, Cristal and Phillip Wilson of Parsons, Kansas, and Melissa and Josh Jacobs of Pittsburg, Kansas; his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Shirley Martin; and brothers Larry Bevans and Richard Bevans.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Bevans; his children, Dianne Thorpe, Mike Bevans and Brenda McMillan; his great-grandsons, Owen Hammond and Rocky Smith; his sisters Lillian Wilkins, Dovie Doyle and Margaret Walker; and his brothers John Bevans and Roy Glen Bevans.
A Celebration of his Life and Visitation will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024, from 6:30 to 8:30pm at Forbes Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Military honors will be presented by the Brown-Bishop VFW Post 704.
