Mildred Poor

Mildred M. Poor, 91, of Oswego, passed away at 6:58 p.m., Monday, February 26, 2018 at Parsons Presbyterian Manor.

She was born July 22, 1926 in rural Chetopa, Kansas to George and Flora (Bartee) Conard. Mildred attended Jarrett country school and Chetopa High School.

On June 14, 1941, she and Thomas O. "Tom" Poor were married in Miami, Oklahoma. Following marriage, the couple lived in Faulkner, Kansas before moving in 1955 to rural Mound Valley, Kansas where they farmed until 1969. They owned and operated the Hillcrest Motel in Independence and the Twin Rivers Motel in Neodesha. In 1984, they moved from Cherryvale to Oswego.

Mildred was a member of the Oswego Christian Church. For many years, she enjoyed volunteering in various organizations including the Labette Health Auxiliary, the American Red Cross, and the Parsons Arboretum. She enjoyed flower gardening, doing yard work, and in earlier years quilting.

One Daughter – Diana Janssen and her husband, Marvin, of Wichita, KS

Six Great-Grandchildren

Two Great-Great-Grandchildren

One Brother – Raymond Conard and his wife, Bonnie, of Chetopa, KS

One Sister – Georgia Riley and her husband, Richard, of Normal, IL

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas O. Poor, on February 11, 2000; two brothers, Dale Conard and Verl Conard; one sister, Virginia Chance; and daughter-in-law, Connie Poor.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 5, 2018 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be at Park Cemetery in Columbus, Kansas. Friends may call at their convenience from 1-5:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
